Kay's Classes

Kay’s cookery classes and demos - at your place!

As of Spring, 2009, I’m delighted to offer a new range of classes and demos - in the comfort of your own home.

These include my full series of Thai food classes, as well as my new English Seasonal demos, to tie in with my work for Cook Yourself Thin: Quick and Easy.

Classes include:

Introduction to Thai Food — a special introductory class: let me take you on a tour of your local Thai or Asian supermarket to get the basics for your Thai cooking experience. I’ll show you the best way to cook rice, my wok secrets, and together we’ll make a simple Thai meal of rice, a curry, a stir-fry, soup and a yum (salad).

Thai Street Food— Thais love to snack, and there are street stalls everywhere, offering some of the best and most exciting food in the country. My Street Food class brings four of these exciting dishes indoors so you can make them at home. I’ll show you how to adapt these dishes into delicious, practical additions to your dinners and barbecues.

Thai Seafood — A special demo devoted to the Thais love affair with seafood. From a selection of dishes, I’ll show you a delicious take on steamed mussels, a glorious crab curry, the simplest and best prawns ever, even a whole fish, Thai-style, depending on the best fish at market.

Regional Thai — Thai food has vast regional differences. Choose a class of regional specialities: from Chiang Mai in the north; the plenty of Sukothai and the Central Plains; Esarn, with its Laotian influence and searing spices; Bangkok favourites; or the pungent, exciting exoticism of Ranong and the Muslim south.

Vegetarian Thai — Thai food is well known for its healthy approach to ingredients and cooking. But most of its dishes are not properly vegetarian. In this class, I’ll show you the substitutions you’ll need to make to cook great vegetarian or vegan Thai

BBQ Thai — You cannot go anywhere in Thailand without smelling something, somewhere, cooking over coals. In this class, I’ll show you my favourite marinades and tricks for Thai barbecue cooking. And I’ll demonstrate how to achieve that delicious flavour indoors as well as out.

Healthy English Seasonal Food — We all know that food tastes better in season, but sometimes it’s so hard to keep track of what’s in season when? A market trip and cooking demo, in which I’ll show you how to prepare the best of British produce, at its best time of year.

Kay’s Kitchen Makeover — How many times have you seen a recipe, and thought “well I don’t have that, why bother?” Let me overhaul your kitchen cupboards, and help you stock up on the best herbs, spices, sauces and staples so you can whip up a quick, easy and delicious meal in minutes. I’ll show you why I think that you don’t need much in your kitchen: just a couple of knives, a couple of pans and some tip-top condiments for great results, every time.
