Balcony Kitchen Garden: Take 2

Oh! Happy Day!

I had my first cup of coffee on the terrace today without being so bundled up that I can hardly find my mouth with the mug. The chile and the tarragon I thought I'd murdered have lifted their winter-worn heads and are actually ALIVE, I tell you, ALIVE!!!

(Actually, it's incredible what effect the sun has on ME, let alone the plants)

Had great, surreal moment this morning as I was planting a new herb (to my kitchen, anyway): Mexican Marigold: there, peering beakily down at me from the willow tree, was a huge green parrot! As if it was saying: "?Hola!??Estan para mi?" Cheeky. I better watch out for him. I'll name him Cesar, I think.

The planting diary has been written, the manure spread and the pesky rosemary beetles crushed under foot, and I shall keep you all informed, once again, of my triumphs and my tears as I go forward on another journey, with seeds and dirt and lots of love.

Good luck, Kay! Spring isn't quite with us here in Canada, but I'm planning some tomatoes in my green-house, and maybe some of those little round marrows too. Oh, and salad greens: there's nothing like cutting them straight from the planting bed, rinsing them quickly, and plonking them into a bowl.
