Goodbye Gourmet

gourmet-magazine.jpg

I'm a bit sad about this, actually. I remember Gourmet Magazine landing on our front porch in Bangkok, monthly, as a child. Even then, I would devour the pages hungrily with my eyes, amazed at the culinary delights and stories within. And I can pinpoint this as the start of my American love affair. It all seemed so very, very exciting. In fact, I have the final issue waiting for me in LA, and I know I shall shed a tear as I read it.

There is a big difference between US and UK food magazines that I could ? and actually will ? go into on another blog. ?It's like the difference between our films and, more likely, our soap operas. You do the maths.

Formidable erstwhile editor Ruth Reichl has started a 'Thanks Gourmet' page. Check it out, and add to it if you have any memories.

I certainly do.
